R.A. Morgan is an American artist, writer, filmmaker and publisher. He was born in Oakland, California and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. He studied painting with Larry Rivers and Gary Brown at the University of California at Santa Barbara where he graduated in 1992.
In the 1980's, in collaboration with Milly Iatrou, he created a series of video's called, The Very Reverend Deacon b. Peachy's 1/4 Hour plus 13 minutes, for the artists' television show, Communications Update, a.k.a. Cast Iron TV. He also played the role of the eponymous reverend. The series was written about in Artforum and other art journals of the period and is considered a prime example of Artists' Television.
After TVRDbP series he and Iatrou created a series of videos, Dead Poets, based on texts by 18th century poets and writers, as well as a video based on, My Autobiography: Portable, a story by the acclaimed writer, Frederic Tuten.
Morgan also produced, wrote, directed and edited educational videos on Emily Dickinson and Edgar Allan Poe which were distributed to schools and universities around the world. In the 2000s he wrote and edited long and short form documentary films for the Annenberg Foundation's Explore project.
In 2014 Morgan created Darley Publishing, a creator and distributor of digital, multimedia books by artists and writers. He has written three novels and several collections of short stories and photographs.
Morgan's films and videos have been shown at The Museum of Modern Art in New York, The Whitney Museum, The World Wide Video Festival, LA Freewaves, The Mill Valley Film Festival, The American Museum of the Moving Image, The New Museum and international film and video festivals. He lives with his wife and collaborator, Milly Iatrou, in Los Angeles, California.
